FTSE 100 Sees Hopeful Open Amid Oil Price Dip
The FTSE 100 is expected to open higher on Monday, September 21, following last Friday's sharp decline. Early futures suggest a 0.3% increase in the index, which fell 1.4% to 10,659.13 on Friday. The drop was attributed to losses in financial stocks, high oil prices, and high interest rates associated with Middle East tensions.
Banks were among the worst-performing sectors, with Lloyds and HSBC declining substantially. However, lower oil prices may ease market concerns, as Brent crude declined by 2% on Monday morning due to increased exports from Saudi Arabia. Energy companies such as BP and Shell also reacted negatively to the price drop.
The Bank of England's rate policy remains uncertain, with inflation reaching 3.1% in August. Barclays has joined JP Morgan in calling for a November rate hike, although this is still a brokerage expectation. Traders will continue to monitor oil prices, Strait of Hormuz developments, and UK government bond yields.
