Fuel Prices Spark UK Inflation Surge

UK inflation rose to 3.1 percent in August due to increased fuel prices, according to official data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) saw a 0.2 percentage point increase from July's 2.9 percent.

Fuel prices were the main driver of inflation, with transport costs rising by 4.6 percent year on year in August, up sharply from the previous month's 3.6 percent increase.

The ONS cited ongoing tensions in the Middle East as a factor contributing to higher oil prices and subsequent increases at the pump.
