GBP/CAD Exchange Rate Hits Two-Week Low Amid Volatility
The British Pound (GBP) has been experiencing some volatility in its exchange rate against the Canadian Dollar (CAD), reaching a two-week low last week. Despite UK GDP figures, oil prices rose, causing the GBP/CAD to waver down to CA$1.8787, down marginally on the week.
The Pound's performance has been mixed this week, with Sterling edging higher despite a lack of clear catalyst for the move. However, it struggled to attract support following Thursday's UK GDP figures, which showed solid growth in the first half of 2026 but raised concerns about maintaining that rate through the remainder of the year.
The Canadian Dollar (CAD), on the other hand, has been driven by commodity prices, particularly oil. Brent oil prices surged to $90 per barrel amid simmering tensions in the Middle East, causing the CAD to trend higher. However, crude prices eased back towards the end of the week, seeing CAD trim its gains.
