GBP Finds Footing at 1.3420 Amid Ongoing US-Iran Tensions

The British Pound (GBP) has found footing at 1.3420 against the US Dollar (USD), as markets await the release of US Job Openings data.

A combination of factors is contributing to the pound's slight gains, including a mild risk appetite amid market hopes for a negotiated breakthrough in Iran and investors' cautiousness ahead of key US labour market releases.

The ongoing tension between the US and Iran has led to contradictory news, with US President Donald Trump stating that this is Tehran's last chance to sign a good deal with the United States, while Iranian authorities have denied any talks with US negotiators.

Analysts at Rabobank highlight that GBP net shorts bounced higher last week ahead of the Bank of England (BoE) policy meeting, underscoring renewed speculative pressure on the Pound. They note that despite a more hawkish voting split than expected from the MPC, Governor Bailey's tone was dovish, suggesting little support for the pound from the BoE.
