GBP Hangs in Balance as Inflation Tests Loom
The Pound Sterling is bracing for two critical inflation tests this week, which could significantly impact its value. The US Producer Price Index (PPI) and Consumer Price Index (CPI) readings are expected to show whether inflation remains hot or cools down.
A hotter than expected print would likely extend the case for a Federal Reserve rate hike, boosting the Dollar and putting pressure on the Pound Sterling. On the other hand, a softer reading could lead to market repricing of rate cuts, causing the GBP to rally.
The UK's own Consumer Price Index (CPI) reading is scheduled for Friday, and its timing is crucial. A hot reading before the Bank of England's decision on September 17 would push the hawkish minority's case for a 4% interest rate hike.
