GBP/JPY Hits Fresh Monthly Peak Amid Japan's Fiscal Woes
The British Pound has extended its gains to reach a fresh monthly peak against the Japanese Yen. The GBP/JPY cross surged to around mid-217.00s during the first half of the European session, regaining positive traction on Tuesday amid the prevailing JPY selling bias.
Japan's fiscal woes and the wide interest rate gap continue to weigh on the JPY, with investors concerned about the country's worsening financial condition. The Bank of Japan's benchmark interest rate is projected to remain below 1.5% by the end of this year, while the Bank of England's base rate is expected to finish at 3.75%, leaving a significant gap between the two.
The prevailing JPY selling bias has been driven by factors such as Japan's economic headwinds due to increased import costs and supply chain strains caused by the Middle East conflict and Strait of Hormuz disruptions.
