GBP/JPY Plummets Amid Japanese Intervention Talk and UK Budget Concerns
The GBP/JPY currency pair has been trending downward due to Japanese intervention talk and sterling facing budget and growth headwinds.
Tokyo's Finance Minister, Satsuki Katayama, stated that an undervalued Yen poses problems, and the country will continue close talks with the US Treasury to promote stable foreign exchange markets. This comes after earlier warnings from Japanese officials over the currency's weakness.
The British Pound is also facing challenges ahead of its budget update on October 28. HSBC has forecasted weak labor demand and a difficult growth outlook due to high energy prices, which could impact sterling's value.
In technical terms, GBP/JPY is trading below its 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day Simple Moving Averages (SMA). The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is near 36, indicating room for further downward momentum. Bearish option strategies are recommended to position for a potential pullback to the 205 support level.
