GBP/JPY Plunges to Six-Month Lows on BoJ Tightening Expectations
The British Pound (GBP) has fallen sharply against the Japanese Yen (JPY), reaching six-month lows as investors weigh in on potential Bank of Japan (BoJ) monetary policy changes.
According to Danske Bank, comments from economic adviser Takuji Aida suggest a steeper BoJ tightening cycle, prompting a 3.3% decline in the GBP/JPY pair over the last four trading days.
Aida expects the BoJ to raise rates at its upcoming September meeting and another hike by January next year, but warns that a faster pace could weigh on the economy.
The technical analysis suggests that if the current price action continues, a confirmation below 209.20 would expose the February 27 low at 207.30.
