GBP/JPY Recovery Stalls Amid Persistent Yen Weakness
The GBP/JPY exchange rate has made a steady recovery since the joint US-Japan intervention in late July. The intervention aimed to curb excessive weakness in the Japanese Yen, which had climbed above 160 against the USD for the first time in forty years.
However, the impact of the intervention proved short-lived. Japan's expansionary fiscal policy, high government debt, and wide interest-rate gap with other major economies continue to weigh on the Japanese Yen.
The technical outlook for GBP/JPY remains tilted to the upside, driven by persistent headwinds for the Japanese Yen.
