GBP/JPY Surge Fizzles as Traders Focus on Technical Levels
The British pound rose against the Japanese yen on Friday following the Bank of Japan's decision to raise interest rates. The market reacted positively as the BoJ's press conference did not signal aggressive rate hikes, with a 50-basis-point increase in the short term no longer being considered.
This move allowed the pound to spike against the yen, but it later gave back some of its initial gains as traders focused on the pair's 200-day exponential moving average (EMA).
The interest rate differential between the two currencies remains wide, with the Bank of England failing to raise rates on Thursday. However, in the long term, the pound still offers a positive yield relative to the yen.
