GBP/JPY Tumbles on Intervention Fears and Stronger Yen
The GBP/JPY cross has fallen as intervention fears lift the Japanese Yen's value. The currency is currently trading around 208.20, approaching its September low near 207.
TMGM Analysis notes that the Japanese Yen is outperforming its major peers due to growing concerns about potential interventions in the currency market.
The Japanese Finance Minister, Satsuki Katayama, said on Tuesday that an 'undervalued Yen generally poses problems' and that Tokyo will 'keep close talks with the US Treasury to ensure stable foreign exchange markets.'
Analysts at HSBC warn that weak UK labor demand and sluggish private sector momentum could weigh on the GBP in the near term.
