GBP Trades Flat Against JPY As Tokyo CPI Exceeds Estimates
The British Pound (GBP) has traded flat against the Japanese Yen (JPY) at around 208.55, as both currencies consolidated on Friday.
Tokyo's Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for September came in stronger-than-expected at 2.7% Year-on-Year (YoY), exceeding estimates of 2.4%.
BoJ officials argued in favor of accelerating monetary tightening, but a majority of the board urged caution on raising interest rates, citing concerns about economic conditions.
Bank of England member Catherine Mann criticized her central bank's communication on interest rates, stating that it has only boosted borrowing costs in ways that are of no comfort to officials.
