GBP/USD Jumps on Record Diesel Prices, Eyes Higher BoE Rates
The GBP/USD exchange rate strengthened on Monday as UK diesel prices hit a record high of 199.18p per litre, leading to increased expectations of higher Bank of England interest rates.
According to data from UK forecourts, the average price for diesel surpassed the previous record set in June 2022 following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
As a result, markets are anticipating a more hawkish approach from the BoE, potentially leading to tighter monetary policy in the coming months.
The US Dollar found some support on Monday due to fresh developments surrounding the Middle East crisis, including the rejection of an Iranian peace proposal that would have reopened the Strait of Hormuz within seven days.
