GBP/USD Pauses Below Resistance as UK Retail Sales Surpass Expectations
The British Pound (GBP) has gained strength against the US Dollar (USD), rising by 0.1% to around 1.3372 in Friday's European trading session.
This increase follows the release of unexpectedly positive United Kingdom (UK) Retail Sales data for August, which showed a 0.5% month-on-month growth after expectations of a 0.2% decline.
The Office for National Statistics reported this gain in retail sales, sparking a reaction from investors that boosted the British currency.
However, despite this positive reaction to the data, the GBP/USD pair still underperformed compared to other releases and Bank of England (BoE) policy actions during the week.
