GBP/USD Stabilizes Ahead of BoE Hike Expectations and Fed Decision
The GBP/USD exchange rate is showing signs of stabilizing near support levels as traders prepare for the release of UK inflation data and the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision. Rising expectations of a Bank of England (BoE) hike in November or December could boost the British pound, particularly if the UK Consumer Price Index (CPI) surprises higher or the Fed falls short of hawkish market expectations.
The odds of a BoE rate hike have increased from 15.6% to 43.2%, according to overnight index swaps (OIS), with December currently favored at 90.8%. However, yesterday's labor market report cast doubt on a November hike, with claimant counts jumping to a two-year high and private-sector wage growth slowing.
A hot UK CPI print could strengthen the case for a November BoE rate hike, while the Fed's decision may have a significant impact on the GBP/USD exchange rate. If the Fed falls short of hawkish expectations, it could lead to a pullback in the US dollar and potentially boost the British pound.
The technical analysis suggests that the GBP/USD exchange rate is near oversold levels, with a possible bounce expected if the support level holds.
