Geopolitics and Oil to Drive Market Trends in Holiday-Shortened Week
Market analysts predict that geopolitical developments and crude oil prices will steer stock market trends in the coming holiday-shortened week. The US-Iran diplomatic talks and crude oil prices are expected to drive global market sentiment, with any progress on a framework for reopening the Strait of Hormuz potentially easing energy prices and providing relief to India's import bill and the rupee.
Ajit Mishra, SVP, Research at Religare Broking, said that globally, developments around US-Iran diplomacy and crude oil prices will remain critical. He added that on the domestic front, industrial production data for August and the HSBC manufacturing PMI reading will be released during the week.
Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, an online trading and wealth tech firm, said that global bond yields will also remain important following the Federal Reserve's September policy decision. He warned that further increases in yields and the dollar could weigh on emerging-market capital flows, while a moderation in yields could provide some relief.
The rupee is expected to remain under pressure due to persistent oil-related demand for dollars and continued FII outflows, although RBI intervention has helped contain excessive volatility. A series of economic data releases from the US will also be important for global risk sentiment, with Brent crude near USD 105-106 a barrel remaining too elevated to provide meaningful macroeconomic relief.
