German Retail Sales Edge Up 1.3% in August, Missing Forecasts
Germany's retail sales have posted a modest gain in August, according to official data from Destatis. The consumer spending measure rose by 1.3% month-on-month (MoM), which is less than the expected 2.0%. This follows a decline of 3.4% in July.
The Eurozone's retail sales figure is an important indicator of consumer spending and economic health. A strong economy can attract foreign investment, leading to a stronger Euro. Conversely, weak data can lead to a decline in the currency's value.
