GIC Buys 16 Marriott Hotels in Japan for $800 Million
Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC has acquired 16 hotels in Japan operated by Marriott International for about 125 billion yen ($800 million), according to people familiar with the matter.
The hotels, including the mid-price-range chain Four Points Flex by Sheraton, are located in 11 cities, including Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Fukuoka. GIC took over Four Points Flex by Sheraton, which was previously owned by US investment firm KKR that sold it on September 25th.
The weak yen has made Japan a more affordable travel destination, with the number of foreign visitors breaking above 40 million for the first time in 2025, reaching around 42.7 million people.
