GIFT Nifty signals steady start for Indian markets on strong global cues
Indian equities are poised for a steady start on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, as the GIFT Nifty signals a positive opening. The GIFT Nifty, an indicator for the Nifty 50, is trading 84 points or 0.4% higher at 22,660 points in early trade, suggesting a second consecutive day of strong gains for Indian markets. The benchmark indices had closed higher on Monday, with the Nifty ending 0.6% higher at 22,555.75 points, while the Sensex closed 0.7% higher at 72,382.47 points.
Global markets are also showing resilience, with most Asian indices opening higher. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.22%, and the broader Topix gained 0.26%, while South Korea’s Kospi opened 0.15% lower, and the Kosdaq surged 1.91%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 was up 0.43%. Crude oil prices remained steady, with Brent crude trading around $100.48 per barrel, slightly higher than Monday’s levels, while West Texas Intermediate futures were marginally lower at $89.34 per barrel.
US stock futures were nearly flat, as traders appear to be looking past concerns over elevated 10-year US yields, which breached 5.3% on Monday, the highest levels since 2002. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.2%, the S&P 500 rose 0.7%, and the Nasdaq Composite hit an all-time high, closing 1% higher. The US Dollar Index (DXY) was trading at 102.15, while the Indian rupee ended at 96.29 against the US dollar.
Commodities saw mixed movements, with COMEX gold trading marginally higher at $4,145.57 per ounce, and COMEX silver rising to $61.43 per ounce. In India, 24-carat gold was priced at Rs 1,49,180 per 10 grams, while 18-carat gold was at Rs 1,11,885 per 10 grams. Foreign institutional investors continued to sell equities worth Rs 4,699.14 crores, while domestic investors purchased shares worth Rs 5,181.62 crores.
