Giorgetti Warns ECB Rate Hikes Won't Tackle Euro Area Inflation
European Central Bank (ECB) interest-rate hikes have not solved the inflation problem in the euro area, according to Italian Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti. In a statement on Friday, he emphasized that inflation stems from supply shocks rather than excessive demand, which restrictive monetary policies can only temper but not solve.
Giorgetti's views contradict those who believe that ECB rate hikes would effectively address high consumer prices across the region. He stated that interest-rate increases 'certainly help' to control inflation but do not provide a complete solution on their own.
