Global Indices Rise on Weaker US Jobs Data, Tech Stocks Lead Gains
The major global stock indices rose on Friday after weaker-than-expected U.S. employment data reduced expectations for another Federal Reserve rate increase in October.
The S&P 500 index climbed 0.7% to 7,722.72, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.2% to 27,190.86 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.5% to 51,176.96.
The improvement was largely driven by technology stocks, which responded positively to the reduced rate concerns. The STOXX Europe 600 index also rose about 0.8%, joining the rebound after a difficult start to October.
However, despite the rally, some markets still faced significant losses for the week. Britain's FTSE 100 fell 2.2% for the week, its largest decline since April, while the S&P 500 lost 0.27%
