Global Markets Bracing for Super Data Week Amid Pivotal Employment Reports
Global markets are in for a super data week from August 3 to 7, with key releases including manufacturing PMIs from China and overseas, U.S. trade and orders data, crude oil inventory figures, and critical U.S. employment reports.
The flurry of data will have a significant impact on Federal Reserve policy expectations, the strength of the U.S. dollar, and commodity price volatility. Investors should be prepared to adjust their positions accordingly to capture opportunities and mitigate risks.
On Monday (August 3), China's July SPGI Manufacturing PMI, final readings of the UK, France, and Germany's SPGI Manufacturing PMIs, and the U.S. ISM Manufacturing PMI will be released. Additionally, approximately RMB 900 billion in reverse repos mature, but only RMB 300 billion in new reverse repos have been conducted so far.
On Tuesday (August 4), the U.S. trade balance for June and durable goods orders for June will be announced. The release of SpaceX's Q2 2026 earnings may also drive short-term sentiment swings in aerospace and high-end manufacturing subsectors.
Wednesday (August 5) will see API and EIA crude oil inventory reports, U.S. July ADP employment change, and Australia's June exports month-over-month. Thursday (August 6) will bring the release of U.S. July Challenger job cuts and initial and continuing claims for unemployment insurance.
Friday (August 7) is the most pivotal day with the release of the full U.S. employment report for July, which includes nonfarm payrolls, unemployment rate, wage growth, and labor force participation rate. Central bank speeches will wrap up the week's market action, with James Bullard and Tom Barkin delivering remarks on the U.S. economy and monetary policy.
