Global Markets in Turmoil as Refined Oil Shortages Bite
Global markets are facing unprecedented turmoil due to escalating energy market volatility and emerging pressures in the artificial intelligence sector. The crisis is centered around refined oil products, including petrol and diesel, which are driving inflationary pressures worldwide.
The situation has taken a turn for the worse with Saudi Arabian oil giant Aramco cancelling deliveries to some European refiners. This has led to fuel shortages at one in nine petrol stations across France, extended outages at an Exxon diesel refinery in Illinois, and a recent drone strike on Russia's Moscow Oil Refinery.
The impact of these supply issues is being felt far and wide, with the US retail giant Costco rationing motor oil amidst soaring prices. A quart now costs nearly $58, up from $30 last year, further exacerbating inflation risks for economies worldwide.
Analysts at JPMorgan have admitted they 'simply don't know how to model the endgame' as critical economic 'red lines' like oil above $100 a barrel and the 10-year US Treasury yield at 5 per cent have been breached. Brent crude sits at $104 a barrel, but diesel trades as if crude were $200.
