Global Markets Rise as Oil Prices Drop and Wall Street Gains Persist
Global shares mostly climbed on Tuesday, following gains on Wall Street and a drop in oil prices amid Middle East uncertainties. In early European trading, the FTSE 100, CAC 40, and DAX each rose 0.8%. U.S. futures also advanced, with the S&P 500 up 0.3% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average gaining 0.6%.
In Asia, Japan’s Nikkei 225 surged 1.1% to 70,683.98, surpassing 70,000 for the first time since early July. Meanwhile, South Korea’s Kospi fell 0.9% to 6,941.39, with tech stocks like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix declining. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 1%, and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.6%.
Oil prices dropped over 1%, with Brent crude falling to $99.07 per barrel and U.S. crude losing 1.7% to $87.91 per barrel. Analysts noted easing supply pressures, though tensions between the U.S. and Iran remain high. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield eased to around 5.27%, after briefly hitting a multi-decade high of 5.35%.
The U.S. dollar strengthened to 158.18 yen, while the euro rose to $1.1238. Investors are seeking higher returns amid rising inflation and U.S. national debt surpassing $40 trillion.
