Gold Dips as Dollar Strengthens and Treasury Yields Surge
Gold prices declined on Tuesday as the US dollar strengthened and Treasury yields reached their highest levels in 24 years. The precious metal fell 0.3% to $1,928.69 per ounce, while US gold futures saw little change at $1,956. The dollar's gains made gold more expensive for international buyers, reducing demand.
Treasury yields on 10-year and 30-year bonds surged to their highest points since 1999, reflecting ongoing weakness in the bond market. Despite these pressures, gold's losses were limited by fading expectations of an imminent Federal Reserve rate hike in October.
Other precious metals also experienced declines. Spot silver dropped 0.6% to $20.67 per ounce, platinum fell 0.7% to $1,710.08, and palladium eased 0.2% to $1,170.15.
