Gold Hits 88% Long-Position Share Amid Market Overbuying
The financial markets are showing signs of overbought conditions in several assets. According to data released on September 18, 2026, 6 instruments have long positions exceeding 80%. Among these, spot gold (XAU/USD) has the highest proportion of long positions at 88%, followed by the FTSE China A50 with a 98% long-position share.
The Hong Kong Hang Seng Index (HK50), New Zealand dollar/U.S. dollar (NZD/USD), and New Zealand dollar/Japanese yen (NZD/JPY) also have high levels of long positions, standing at 89%, 88%, and 92% respectively. U.S. dollar/Offshore Renminbi (USD/CNH) has a long-position share of 83%. The net short positions that have decreased include the Nikkei 225 Index.
In contrast, some assets have seen their net long positions expand, including FTSE China A50, HK50 Hang Seng, Nasdaq 100, US30 Dow Jones, USD/CHF, AUD/USD, AUD/JPY, NZD/USD, and NZD/JPY. The position-holding signals are based on the comparison of net long percentages from today and yesterday.
