Gold Price Surges Above $4,400 as US Inflation Data Eases Rate-Hike Expectations
The price of gold has risen above $4,400 per ounce after US inflation data was released on Wednesday. The data showed that consumer prices increased 3.4% year over year in July, down from 3.5% in June. This reduction in inflation pressures eased expectations for a Federal Reserve interest-rate hike in the near term.
According to Reuters, spot gold reached $4,436.99 per troy ounce, up more than 1% on the day. The precious metal's value is closely tied to interest rates and inflation, making it an attractive asset when investors anticipate less pressure from higher rates.
The Federal Reserve's outlook remains a major factor in the gold market. While softer inflation data has reduced expectations for a near-term rate increase, inflation remains above the Fed's 2% target, and some price pressures could prove persistent.
