Gold Prices Stagnant Amid High-Interest Rate Expectations
Gold prices were stagnant on Tuesday as market expectations of prolonged high-interest rates held back investor sentiment. Spot gold remained steady at $4,344.29 an ounce by 01:51 GMT, while US gold futures were unchanged at $4,381.80.
The traditional hedge against inflation and geopolitical risks, gold's appeal is diminished in a high-interest-rate environment as investors favor yield-bearing assets.
Analysts pointed out that with limited US economic data scheduled for this week, investors will focus on comments from Federal Reserve officials to gauge the central bank's stance on potential interest rate hikes. St. Louis Federal Reserve President Alberto Musalem stated that the US central bank may need to raise interest rates further to combat inflation driven by strong demand and commodity price shock.
