Gold Stabilizes Amid Fed Policy and Geopolitical Tensions

Gold prices stabilized on Tuesday after a significant decline in the previous session. The precious metal's value had fallen more than 2% earlier in the week but found support near $2,300 per ounce as of late morning trading in New York.

The initial drop was triggered by stronger-than-expected U.S. economic data, which reinforced the view that the Federal Reserve may delay interest rate cuts. Higher interest rates increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like gold, making it less attractive to investors.

However, the decline was capped by safe-haven buying linked to renewed hostilities in the Middle East, where diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the Israel-Hamas conflict have stalled. Market analysts note that gold is caught between two powerful forces: a resilient U.S. economy and sticky inflation arguing for a prolonged period of tight monetary policy, which is negative for gold.

On the other hand, the potential for a wider regional conflict in the Middle East continues to drive demand for the metal as a store of value. 'Gold is essentially range-bound until we get a clearer signal on either interest rates or a major geopolitical event,' said one commodity strategist.
