GPIF Posts Record Investment Profit of 24 Trillion Yen in April-June
The Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF), Japan's largest pension fund, has announced its highest quarterly investment profit on record. The fund earned a profit of 24,089.5 billion yen in April-June, thanks to rising stock prices both domestically and internationally.
Specifically, the GPIF posted an investment return of 8.2% during this period. Its profits came from domestic stocks (10,275.3 billion yen), foreign stocks (12,286.6 billion yen), and foreign bonds (2,375.4 billion yen). A weaker yen also contributed to its increased earnings.
However, the GPIF did incur a loss of 847.8 billion yen from domestic bonds due to rising bond yields following an interest rate hike by the Bank of Japan.
