Greece Enters EU's Crypto Regulatory Framework with First MiCA-Registered Providers
The European Union's crypto regulatory framework has welcomed its first MiCA-authorised crypto providers in Greece, with four companies added to the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) register. BCash, Xenios Blockchain Group, Capital Wallet Greece, and Piraeus Bank are now listed as eligible service providers under the MiCA framework.
The addition of these Greek providers marks a significant milestone for Greece's participation in the EU's unified crypto regulatory framework. The new entries highlight how responsibility for crypto regulation is divided between the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC) and the Bank of Greece, reflecting Greece's implementation of the MiCA framework.
The development comes amid renewed attention on Binance, which withdrew its Greek application for authorisation through the Greek regulator. A subsequent Wall Street Journal report claimed that European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde intervened to prevent the application from being approved, but this was denied by the HCMC in a written response to Cointelegraph.
