Greece's Inflation Rate Soars Past Eurozone Average in September
Greece's inflation rate accelerated to 5.1% in September 2026, surpassing the eurozone average of 3.8%, according to preliminary figures from Eurostat.
The increase marks a sharp jump from August's 3.7% and widens the gap between Greece and the eurozone, which was 0.5 percentage points apart in August but now stands at 1.3 percentage points.
Energy prices drove the inflation surge, rising 25.4% this year compared to 15.4% previously, while services prices also increased faster in Greece, reaching 6.3% annual inflation in September, nearly double the eurozone's 3.2%.
The International Energy Agency attributed renewed upward pressure on international oil prices to fresh disruptions to Middle Eastern exports and curtailed alternative supply routes due to the ongoing war.
