Greek Designer Shortlisted for Euro Banknote Series
Myrsini Vardopoulou, a Greek designer renowned for her work on over 250 postage stamps for Hellenic Post, is leading one of ten proposals shortlisted by the European Central Bank (ECB) for a new euro banknote series. The winning design will be incorporated into the currency used by millions in the euro area.
The ECB's shortlisted proposals are based on two themes: European culture and nature. Vardopoulou's proposal, Design E, falls under the cultural theme but focuses on individual contributions rather than fame. It uses a circular visual language and symbols intended to create a space where ideas, knowledge, and culture converge.
Citizens in the euro area can vote for their preferred design until September 21. The ECB's governing council is expected to make a final decision by the end of the year.
