Greeks Weigh In on New Euro Banknote Designs
Nearly 148,000 people in Greece have cast their votes on proposed designs for the next generation of euro banknotes. The European Central Bank's public online survey runs through September 21.
About 9 million people across the eurozone have participated as of Monday, according to the Bank of Greece. This includes Greeks voting on a design that features opera legend Maria Callas, who would appear on the proposed 5-euro notes.
The ECB unveiled 10 shortlisted designs in July, divided between two themes: 'European Culture' and 'Rivers and Birds.' The former theme features prominent figures from Europe's cultural heritage, including Beethoven and Cervantes. Design E was created by Myrsini Vardopoulou.
