Green Economy Grows 6.2% to $65.5 Billion Despite Instability
The global green economy continues to expand despite economic and political instability, according to the latest Global Environmental & Sustainability (E&S) Consulting Market Assessment. The report, released by Environment Analyst, reveals that the market grew by 6.2% in 2025, reaching a value of $65.5 billion. This growth was driven by 37 of the most prominent E&S consulting firms, which together account for 63% of the global market.
North America remained the largest market, with revenues surpassing $31 billion in 2025. The region saw the most significant growth, particularly in the United States and Canada, which grew by 12.7%. The report highlights that traditional service areas, such as water and waste management, provided stability, while emerging sectors like sustainability and ESG strategy showed the highest growth rates.
The 'Big Four' consulting firms, WSP, Tetra Tech, AECOM, and Jacobs, dominated the market, collectively holding 31.7% of the total revenue. WSP, in particular, extended its lead by acquiring companies like Ricardo in 2025 and TRC Companies in early 2026, solidifying its position as the market leader with a 10.5% share. The report also noted the rapid growth in the data center and AI investment sectors, which are reshaping the market dynamics.
Looking ahead, the report forecasts continued growth in climate and ESG-related services, driven by increasing demand for climate resilience, adaptation, and energy transition solutions. The water and wastewater subsector, along with energy transmission, is expected to contribute significantly to this growth.
