Halifax Mortgage Rates Shift Amid Market Uncertainty
Halifax mortgage rates have undergone changes recently, making it an ideal time for potential homebuyers to reassess their options. The lender has reduced its fixed deals by as much as 0.15%, focusing on first-time buyers and home movers. A £1,099 setup fee applies to these deals, with a two-year fixed rate of 4.46% resulting in monthly repayments of approximately £830.
Halifax's tracker mortgages are directly impacted by the current base rate set by the Bank of England at 3.75%. While they may be beneficial when rates drop, they can be less favorable when rates rise. The market appears cautiously optimistic about future base rate movements, but the outcome remains uncertain.
The lender offers a range of options for first-time buyers, including mortgages with deposits as low as 5% and the Family Boost mortgage, which allows family members to use their savings as collateral. Halifax has also simplified its application process, providing an Agreement in Principle with a soft credit check that takes around ten minutes to complete online.
Additionally, Halifax offers the HelloHome feature on its app, enabling clients to track their equity and monitor their rate. The lender is also open about waiving early repayment fees for customers who are nearing the end of an existing term.
