Hana Bank Breaks Ground with $100M Digital Bond in South Korea
Hana Bank made history in South Korea's foreign-currency bond market by issuing a $100 million digital bond, marking the first same-day settlement (T+0) for such debt. The bond was processed end-to-end through D-FMI, a blockchain-based platform operated by Euroclear.
This achievement is significant as conventional foreign-currency bonds typically require three to five business days from issuance to actual fund movement and settlement completion. Hana Bank's digital bond issuance and T+0 settlement demonstrate the potential of blockchain technology in streamlining financial processes.
Standard Chartered served as the sole lead manager for the issuance, overseeing the entire process from bond structuring to distribution.
