Hanson Demands Chalmers Resignation as RBA Hikes Interest Rates Again
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has called for Treasurer Jim Chalmers to resign following the Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA) decision to raise interest rates by a quarter percentage point to 4.6 per cent.
Hanson accused Labor of failing to bring inflation under control, saying 'Labor has failed to get inflation under control' and that Australians have been hit with another interest rate rise, calling it 'another Labor lie.'
The RBA's decision comes after three previous rate hikes in 2026, which will add around $1,500 per year to repayments for a borrower with a $730,000 mortgage.
Hanson proposed that Labor implement One Nation's Super Pay Boost plan, which would allow Australians to take a quarter of their future super contributions as take-home pay for up to three years for their mortgage or rent.
The RBA board warned inflation remains elevated and some upside risks are materializing, with global energy prices now higher than assumed in August forecasts.
