HKMA Backs Fed's Interest Rate Decision Amid Stable Economy

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has commented on the US Federal Reserve's decision to keep interest rates unchanged. The Fed maintained its target range for federal funds at 3.5 to 3.75 percent, a move in line with market expectations.

Economic activity is expanding at a solid pace, and the labour market remains stable, according to the HKMA. However, inflation remains elevated, which is being closely monitored by the authority.

The HKMA also noted that Hong Kong's monetary and financial markets have continued to operate in an orderly manner. The Linked Exchange Rate System means that Hong Kong dollar interbank rates generally track their US dollar counterparts.

The authority cautioned the public to carefully manage interest rate risks when making decisions about property purchase, investment, or borrowing. This is because rate adjustments in the US may influence the interest rate environment in Hong Kong.
