Hong Kong Tops Global Economic Freedom Rankings for Third Straight Year
Hong Kong has once again secured its position as the world’s freest economy in the latest annual ranking by the Fraser Institute, a Canadian think tank. The 2026 Economic Freedom of the World report, which used data from 2024, placed Hong Kong at the top among 165 jurisdictions. This marks the third consecutive year Hong Kong has held the top spot, having briefly lost it in 2023 before reclaiming it in 2024.
Switzerland moved up to second place, overtaking Singapore, which fell to third. This shift highlights the dynamic nature of economic freedom rankings. Despite maintaining its top position, Hong Kong’s score has seen a decline in recent years.
The Fraser Institute, based in Vancouver, compiles the report annually to assess economic freedom across various regions. The ranking provides insights into policies and conditions that foster economic growth and prosperity.
