Hormuz Hopes Send UK Gilt Yields Tumbling Below 5%
UK gilt yields have fallen to their lowest level since August 14 as hopes rise that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen, easing inflation concerns.
Falling oil prices and potential agreements between Iran and Oman, as well as a possible new ceasefire agreement with the US, are behind the decline in gilt yields. The UK's 10-year gilt yields have fallen below 5%, reaching their lowest level since August 14.
The UK's inflation rate accelerated to 2.9% in July, its highest level since March, and is expected to rise further toward year-end. Markets are pricing at least 25 bps of Bank of England rate hikes this year, alongside concerns over persistent inflation and rising government debt.
