India-Canada Trade Talks Accelerate Amid $40 Billion Shortfall
Canada and India aim to increase bilateral trade from $30 billion to $70 billion over the next five years. The countries are speeding up negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Last week, Canadian International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu met with Indian Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in Mumbai to discuss the ongoing free trade talks.
During the meeting, Sidhu emphasized that Canada is committed to helping India meet its growing energy demands. The minister noted that India's economy is expected to require 70% more energy by 2035 and that Canada has an abundance of this resource.
