India Courts Canada, Mexico Amid US Trade Disruptions
India is strengthening its trade ties with Canada and Mexico in response to disruptions caused by US President Donald Trump's tariff policies. Negotiators from India and Canada are set to hold their fifth round of talks on October 5, building on discussions that concluded last week.
A deal between the two countries is expected to be inked in December when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Canada, according to Indian envoy Dinesh Patnaik. The combined economic output of India, Canada, and Mexico exceeds $8 trillion.
Separately, New Delhi is finalizing a framework with Mexico to begin formal trade negotiations. Officials are seeking to make faster progress in the talks as all three countries aim to diversify their commercial ties.
Mexico's Economy Ministry has confirmed ongoing analysis for a potential deal but notes there's no concrete or final proposal yet.
