Indian Markets Start Cautiously Amid Global Pressure
The Indian stock market started cautiously on September 21, as indicated by the GIFT Nifty index. It was trading 23 points lower than the previous day's closing mark of 23,400.
This cautious start is largely due to global cues, including US Treasury yields hovering near 5%, which has put pressure on global markets. Asian markets also opened mostly in green, with South Korea's Kospi rising 0.85% and the Kosdaq gaining 0.43%. However, Japanese markets remained shut for a holiday.
In early deals, Brent crude futures fell 2.10% to $101.69 a barrel, while US crude was down 1.93% at $98.36 a barrel. The rupee also pared its initial gains to close unchanged at 95.89 against the US dollar on Friday (September 18). Investors will be keeping an eye on these global cues and domestic market movements as the session progresses.
The infrastructure sector gained 3.79% in the last trading session, followed by electronics at 3.44% and petrochemicals at 2.81%. The Wadia Group was among the top gainers, with a 5.82% increase, while the Nagarjuna Group fell 2.25%, followed by the CK Birla Group at 2.06% and the Tata Group at 2.03%.
