A recent poll conducted by Marquette University Law School has revealed that Americans' top concern is the cost of living and inflation, with 35% of respondents citing it as their most important issue. This is followed closely by the economy at 15%, while concerns over the Iran war have dropped to 10%, its lowest spot in three months.

The poll, which surveyed 1,076 adults between July 22-29, found that cost of living and inflation has remained a top concern for Americans since January, with 56% ranking it as either the most important or second most important issue. The personal consumption expenditure (PCE) price index, the Federal Reserve's preferred measure of inflation, shows annual inflation dipping from 4.1% in May to 3.7% in June.

The Federal Reserve recently chose to leave its benchmark interest rate unchanged for the fifth straight meeting, with three regional Fed presidents dissenting and advocating for a rate hike to combat elevated inflation. Meanwhile, only 28% of Americans describe the nation's economy as being in an excellent or good state.
