Inflation Hits 3.1%, Experts Predict Higher Interest Rate Hike
UK inflation rose to 3.1% in August 2026, up from 2.9% in July. This increase has led experts to predict a higher likelihood of an interest rate hike.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures show core inflation remained unchanged at 2.6%, while the goods annual rate rose from 2.2% to 2.7%. The services rate, however, remained at 3.4%.
In related news, Guardian Financial Services paid out £31.7m in individual protection claims last year, a 48% increase from 2024. This growth is attributed to the maturity of its book of business and expanding market share.
