Investment Woes Continue to Plague Canada's Economy
Canada's sluggish economic growth and weak investment have driven investors away, according to a recent analysis. Over the past decade, Canada's per capita GDP has grown at an average rate of just 0.41%, lagging behind other developed economies.
In contrast, Japan's GDP per capita grew by 0.8% over the same period, while South Korea achieved 2.19%. The US also performed better, with a 2.0% growth rate.
The World Bank's B-Ready assessment highlights Canada's strong business environment in some areas, but a more telling indicator is whether investors are actually attracted to the country.
According to the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), net investment outflows from Canada exceeded $1 trillion between 2015 and 2024. This means that for every dollar invested in Canada during this period, two dollars were sent abroad.
