Iran Rial Plummets to Record Low Amid US Sanctions and Blockade
Iran's economy is facing further strain as its currency, the rial, hit a record low against the US dollar. The rial dropped to 2.02 million to the dollar on Monday, with the market rate far exceeding Iran's official Central Bank exchange rate of around 1.5 million rial to the dollar.
The weakening currency is largely attributed to ongoing US sanctions and a naval blockade imposed by Washington. In response, the Iranian government has been working to stabilize its economy, including through measures to boost the rial's value.
As tensions between Iran and the US continue, the economic impact on ordinary Iranians remains a pressing concern. The country's economy is already suffering from previous sanctions and inflationary pressures, leaving many citizens vulnerable to price hikes and reduced living standards.
