Iran Warns Neighbors as US Sanctions Disrupt Middle Eastern Air Travel
The US has imposed new sanctions on Iranian airlines, warning foreign airports and companies that provide services to them that they will be excluded from the US dollar financial system if they comply.
The sanctions have already disrupted flights across the Middle East, with several countries suspending or restricting Iranian air travel. The United Arab Emirates, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Oman, and Baghdad have all been affected.
Iran has responded by warning neighboring countries against enforcing the US sanctions, saying that they could face consequences if they cooperate with Washington.
Iraq is seeking an exemption from the restrictions, citing the impact on patients, students, and religious pilgrims. The country's government is negotiating with the US to allow some flights to continue for humanitarian purposes.
