Iranian Rial Plummets to Record High Against Dollar
The Iranian rial has continued its downward spiral, reaching an unprecedented record high of 225,000 tomans in spot market trading on September 5, 2026. The US dollar's surge wasn't limited to paper currency; it also affected the gold market, with the price of the Emami coin reaching 237 million tomans.
Other major currencies have also recorded high levels, including the euro at approximately 261,440 tomans and the British pound at 305,760 tomans. The UAE dirham traded at 61,760 tomans. Market indicators suggest that the stablecoin Tether is trading near the same levels as the US dollar.
The continued volatility and instability in Iran's business environment have led to rapid fluctuations in exchange rates, exacerbated by foreign exchange restrictions and growing demand pressures in domestic markets.
